Actively You

The actively you

Philosophy

Actively You was founded by Brittany Frino in 2017 (originally as Active Edge Fitness) after her own rollercoaster journey through diet culture, restriction, burnout, and eventually, real, lasting strength & fitness.

Her transformation didn’t come from starving herself or chasing a smaller body (though she initially did just that!). It came from learning to respect her body, fuel it properly, and move in ways that felt good. And now? That’s exactly what Actively You helps other women do.

We’re here to help you build a strong, capable body you actually enjoy living in, no food guilt, no obsessive workouts, and absolutely no body shaming!

At Actively You, we blend real-life experience with expert knowledge to show women that you don’t need to shrink yourself to feel confident. You can eat the food you love, lift heavy things, chase energy (not calories), and feel amazing in your skin, right now.

We cut through the noise of toxic fitness culture with clear, supportive, measurable steps to help you reach your goals, whatever they are. No fluff, no shame, just the tools and coaching you need to feel confident, capable, and unapologetically you.

britt's story

BRITTANY FRINO ACTIVELY YOU

I’ve never been a naturally slim person, so like so many other women, I spent most of my adult life yo-yo dieting, restricting myself, and killing myself with intense workouts. If there was a new weight loss trend, I tried it. Sometimes I was working out for two hours a day, convinced I could just sweat it all off. And sure, sometimes the weight came off, but it always came back, along with the shame and self-hate.

My First “Success” Story? It Wasn’t What It Seemed.

My first real attempt at fitness came after someone mistook me for being pregnant. I was mortified. To add to that, I could barely walk up a hill without puffing (like, a lot…). So I hired a mobile PT to make it as easy as possible, if she showed up at my house, there was no backing out. I trained twice a week and stayed active, and in under a year, I lost 20kg.

What people didn’t see was the fact I was eating 1200 calories a day, every single day, with maybe a little “treat” on weekends (if 1500 calories counts as a treat). No chocolate. No snacks. No Ice Cream. Just diet versions of my favourite foods. But hey, I got smaller, and I thought that meant I was doing everything right.

I even left my miserable office job and studied to become a personal trainer. I wanted other people to feel what I thought I’d found: health, discipline, worth. Except… it wasn’t the whole story.

Because even though I “looked the part,” I was still measuring my worth by the size of my body. Still pinching at my flabby arms (they weren’t flabby) and wishing for a flat stomach. I was preaching health, but punishing myself behind the scenes.

Everything Changed When My Body Said: No More.

Then in late 2017, everything changed. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and suddenly could barely train at all. I found Pilates, which I loved, but my body wasn’t responding the way it used to.

I started gaining weight again and panicked. I followed a nutritionist’s advice to the letter: gluten-free, dairy-free, under-eating, over-exercising… and I gained weight. Four kilos in four months. Something was seriously off.

By late 2021, I’d had enough. My business shifted focus because I had no other choice. I had to stop obsessing over weight. I had to educate myself on what true health looks like. I had to learn how to respect my body for what it could do, not just what it looked like.

And honestly? I’m grateful. That turning point gave me a whole new mission.

The Messy Middle (and the Magic in It)

The next few years weren’t easy. Despite running, strength training, Pilates, and eating a balanced diet, I gained 15kg in one year. My doctor diagnosed me with adrenal fatigue and insulin resistance. I tried Ozempic. I tried Metformin. Both made me feel awful (so much vomiting!!!). I eventually found Myo-inositol to support my blood sugars, and continued focusing on nourishing my body with a balanced diet and movement I enjoyed.

In 2024, I ran a half marathon, all while navigating thyroid and adrenal issues that left me exhausted and struggling to maintain weight because I was stubbornly determined not to let it stop me!

And in March 2025, I finally found a GP who listened. Who looked at my history and said, “This doesn’t add up. Your body isn’t matching your lifestyle.” For once, I felt so validated. I had done so much internal work to love and accept my body, and still do, but hearing a professional reflect back what I knew deep down? It meant everything.

Then came the specialist appointment in June. He told me, very matter-of-factly, that my body stores more food than it needs. Great! How do we fix that? His solution? I should just stop eating. Like, really stop eating. More than I ever had before. No other solution offered. Just “eat less.” I left that appointment furious, and empowered. I refused to go back down that road again. I set a boundary and I stuck to it, even if I did it while crying (and I didn’t even apologise for crying!! Go me!)

Where I am now - July 2025

Now, I’m working with my GP and using Mounjaro to help support my body to use the food I give it rather than store it unnecessarily. I’m optimistic – but as of writing this, I’m on month one! But at least I haven’t been terrible sick!

This isn’t a story about weight loss. It’s a story about resilience, self-trust, and reclaiming your body, not from fat, but from shame.

Now? I help women build strength, confidence, and energy. Whether they're navigating GLP-1 meds (Check out my StrongHer program), thyroid issues, or simply trying to feel at home and strong in their bodies again. Because your body deserves respect and support, no matter what size it is. And so do you.

CEOs - Chief Encouraging Officers

Meet Hugo & Primrose! Actively You’s Chief Encouraging Officers!

Hugo’s favourite form of exercise is swimming! He loves going to his Grandma’s house for a swim in the dams and the accompanying roll in the mud! He also loves a good superman jump into the pool! On a day-to-day basis, he loves to run with his mummy (Britt) at Hawthorne, Minnippi Parklands at Carina, and his favourite Kangaroo Point.

Prim is a running addict! Her happy face and tail are always on full display when we go for runs! Prim also loves going on walks (while wondering why we aren’t running!), especially in new places where she can have a great sniff! Prim especially loves going to Pilates with her mum where she is part of the greeting committee! She definitely doesn’t like it when her mum goes to Pilates on her own & is sure to protest!

Everyone says “just start slow.”

But here’s the part they don’t explain…

What’s ‘slow’ for one body can still be WAY too much for another.

Especially after weight loss.
Especially if energy is unpredictable.
Especially if you’ve already been pushing for years.

So you try… You feel wrecked, you still hate it and assume it’s just not for you.

But it’s not you!

The problem is plans that don’t adapt.
Realistic strength means adjusting *within* the plan, not quitting it altogether.

That’s how movement becomes something you can actually stick to 🩷🙌🏻

Your body isn’t a machine, you don’t just switch it on every morning and it behaves the same.

Some days you have energy. WEW!
Some days you don’t. WAH!

If you expect the same of your body everyday... that’s why workouts suck.

I’m on a GLP-1 and I live with chronic fatigue (plus so much more but lets save that for another story!).

If I only trained on “good energy” days… I’d barely move! LITERALLY!

What actually works?
Different workouts for different days. Some days i feel good and i can do strength or a run. Other days it might be pilates or even a stretch.

I have a plan that adapts to how i’m feeling on any given day.

This is how consistency actually happens 🙌🏻🩷 Follow for more help on how to navigate movement on GLP-1s!

Weight loss is already a LOT on your body.

Less appetite.
Less energy.
Hormone shifts.
Nervous system stress.

And yet somehow we’ve been taught that we need to:
➡️ push harder
➡️ do more
➡️ punish ourselves with exercise

No wonder it feels impossible!!

So what do we do?!
MAKE IT EASIER.
Support your body instead of fighting it.
Choose strength that fits your level!

You’re not lazy.
You’re not broken.
You don’t need more discipline or motivation.

You need a plan that works *with* your body 🩷

Follow for realistic, supportive strength! Especially if you’re navigating weight loss or on a GLP-1🙌🏻💪
